Psychiatrist and author Dr. Scott Haltzman will make a return speaking engagement at Backus Hospital on Thursday, July 23, from 3-4:30 p.m. in the hospital's entry level conference rooms 1-2.

Part of the monthly Psychiatric Department lecture series, Dr. Haltzman will speak about his latest book, "The Secrets of Happy Families: Eight keys to building a lifetime of connection and contentment."

The program is free and no registration is required.

Dr. Haltzman will be available to sign copies of his book, which will be available for sale in the Backus Gift Shop starting July 21.

According to Haltzman's survey of more than 1,000 people on his internet community, DrScott.com, the number one indicator of a successful family is the ability to stick together through turbulent times.

Dr. Haltzman's talk will include lessons learned from 20 years of clinical practice, and participation of thousands of people on DrScott.com. He will lay out the steps families of all kinds can take in order to fortify their foundations and cultivate their relationships.

Dr. Haltzman has previously presented at Backus on his books "The Secrets of Happily Married Men: Eight Ways to Win Your Wife's Heart Forever" and "Secrets of Happily Married Women: How to Get More Out of Your Relationship by Doing Less."

Dr. Haltzman is a clinical assistant professor psychiatry and human behavior at Brown University and medical director of Northern Rhode Island Community Services. He also maintains a private practice focusing on marriage counseling for individuals and couples, and is a frequent guest in many media outlets, including the Today Show, New York Times, Glamour and Cosmopolitan.
