Depression risk may be lowered by diet

Eating a Mediterranean-style diet, rich with fruits, vegetables, legumes, nuts, olive oil and fish, has been found to be good for your heart, but now scientists are suggesting itmay be good for yourmental health as well. Researchers studiedmore than 10,000 Spaniards over almost four-and-a-half years and found on average that those who reported eating a healthy Mediterranean diet at the beginning of the study were about half as likely to develop depression as those who did not stick to the diet.

Diabetics have option to inhale rather than inject insulin

A new palm-sized inhaler with insulin powdermay allow diabetics to control their blood sugar levels by discreetly inhaling, rather than using a needle to inject insulin. The inhaler and powder are currently awaiting Food and Drug Administration approval.

Knowing calories doesn't always mean smarter choices

A recent study of NewYork City's law to post calories in restaurant chains suggests peoplemay be guidedmore by their stomachs than their brains when it comes to deciding what to eat. The study, by several professors at NewYork University and Yale, tracked customers at four fast-food chains in poor neighborhoods where there are high rates of obesity. It found that although about half the customers noticed the calorie counts, which are prominently posted on themenu boards, only 28% of those people said it influenced their ordering.
